Abu Dhabi, UAE – Expo City Dubai witnessed the opening of the Asia-Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors Forum 2025 this morning, Monday. More than 150 mayors and hundreds of leaders and experts from 350 cities representing various continents participated in the event to discuss the future of sustainable urban development and ways to build smarter, more inclusive cities.
During the opening ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, emphasized that hosting the global summit confirms Dubai’s position as a global center for urban dialogue and exchange of expertise. He also noted that the participation of such a large number of city leaders “reflects international confidence in Dubai’s development model and its leadership in building the cities of the future.”
His Highness added that the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has laid the solid foundations for a city of the future built on people, knowledge, and innovation. He also emphasized Dubai’s commitment to becoming a platform that brings together decision-makers. The goal is to discuss ways to achieve a balance between economic development, environmental sustainability, and quality of life.
His Highness added, “We are keen for Dubai to be a platform that brings together city leaders, experts, and decision-makers to discuss solutions. These solutions ensure a balance between economic development, environmental sustainability, and quality of life. We are continuing to strengthen Dubai’s position as a leading global center for developing models for future cities. It places people at the heart of development plans and anticipates the needs of future generations.”
The summit will continue until October 29, 2025, and will address a number of key issues, including urban resilience, digital transformation, climate security, and the green urban economy. This will contribute to strengthening efforts to achieve sustainable development.
The opening was attended by a number of senior officials, including Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, His Excellency Abdulla Al Basti, and Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid. His Highness the Crown Prince also met with a number of participants, including Yuriko Koike, Mayor of Tokyo. The importance of enhancing cooperation between cities to keep pace with global urban expansion was emphasized.
