Dubai, UAE – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai celebrated its 20th anniversary, showcasing its most prominent achievements, which have amounted to investments of AED 175 billion.
It contributed to strengthening the transportation and infrastructure structure in the emirate.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors, stressed that the support and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
The supervision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,along with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,has been instrumental in transforming Dubai into a global city in terms of quality of life and transportation.
Most notable achievements
Public Transport: Developing a 100-kilometer metro and tram network, and a road network extending over 25,000 kilometers, accommodating 3.5 million vehicles daily.
Autonomous Mobility: Launching a self-driving taxi project in 2026, and an air taxi service as part of sustainable transportation trends.
Infrastructure: The number of bridges and tunnels will increase from 129 in 2006 to 1,050 in 2024, and pedestrian bridges from 26 to 177.
Transport Fleet: Operating more than 1,300 modern buses and 31,000 taxis and limousines.
Creativity in mass transportation
The number of public transport users increased from 220 million passengers in 2006 to more than 747 million passengers in 2024, a growth rate of 21.6%.
While a McKinsey study showed that the Authority’s projects generated AED 150 billion in revenue,
It reduced fuel and time costs by approximately AED 319 billion
and contributed to increasing real estate values by AED 158 billion.
Vision of the future
Plans include the 30-kilometre Blue Line of the Dubai Metro with 14 stations,
and the Dubai Walk initiative to make the emirate pedestrian-friendly.
This is in addition to developing Sheikh Zayed, Al Wasl, Jumeirah,
and Umm Suqeim streets to increase traffic flow.
Celebrate and honor
The ceremony honored the founders and launched a commemorative Nol card
and a commemorative coin to mark the 20th
anniversary of the Authority’s establishment.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer affirmed that
the Authority is continuing to modernize its systems
and attract talent in the fields of artificial intelligence and data analysis.
This is to consolidate Dubai’s global position in smart
and sustainable transportation.
