Dubai-UAE: As part of the Year of Community initiatives, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE), unveiled the Sustainable Guidelines for Domestic Workers. The guidelines enhance the adoption of electricity and water conservation practices, supporting the objectives of the National Energy and Water Demand Side Management Program.

The publication aims to promote a culture of conservation and environmental awareness among domestic workers by providing them with simplified practical and behavioural guidelines that contribute to the optimal use of resources and the reduction of waste. This, in turn, positively impacts the efficiency of energy and water consumption, enhances quality of life, and supports the sustainability of natural resources. It aligns with the country’s goals to achieve climate neutrality, reduce the carbon footprint, and realize sustainable development.

MoEI made sure the guidelines were prepared in eight different languages to guarantee that the information reaches a wide segment of domestic workers from diverse nationalities. This approach ensures comprehensive understanding of the sustainable recommendations and practices.

His Excellency Eng Fahad Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector at MoEI, said: “The launch of the Sustainable Guidelines for Domestic Workers comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to engage all segments of society in supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals, particularly those groups that play a direct role in the daily lives of families. It is an important tool for promoting conservation practices and enhancing environmental awareness among domestic workers.”

He added: “Our commitment to publishing the guidelines in eight languages reflects our dedication to reaching the widest possible audience, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the National Energy and Water Demand Side Management Program. This also supports the UAE’s objectives in building an aware society that actively contributes to achieving the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.”

His Excellency continued: “This move is part of a series of pioneering initiatives implemented by MoEI in cooperation with its strategic partners, aiming to embed sustainability practices and encourage community members to play a central role in achieving a balance between development and resource preservation, which in turn boosts the UAE’s competitiveness and leadership in global sustainability indicators.”

Her Excellency Dalal Al Shehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Labour Protection Sector at MoHRE, affirmed that the launch of the Sustainable Guidelines for Domestic Workers, in collaboration with MoEI, represents an important step toward promoting environmental awareness and social responsibility among a group that forms an essential part of the UAE’s social fabric.

Her Excellency said: “MoHRE places great importance on raising awareness among domestic workers and equipping them with the knowledge that enhances their contribution to achieving the country’s sustainability goals. Making the guidelines available in multiple languages reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity and broadening the initiative’s impact across various segments of society.” She added: “MoHRE is keen to support initiatives that improve the quality of life for community members and contribute to building a work environment rooted in awareness and empowerment—aligning with the objectives of the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and the nation’s ambitious goals for climate neutrality and sustainable development.”
