French energy company Total Energies announced in a statement on Friday, April 10, 2026, that an incident occurred at the SATORP refinery in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, during the night of April 7-8. This resulted in damage to one of the refinery’s two main processing lines, prompting the company to shut down the affected units as a precautionary measure. The company added that no injuries were reported, and the impact of the damage on refining operations at the site is currently being assessed.
The Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP) complex is located in Jubail, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It is a joint venture in which Saudi Aramco owns 62.5% and Total Energies owns 37.5%. The French company did not disclose the nature of the incidents that caused the damage, stating only that the shutdown was for safety reasons pending the completion of a technical assessment.
The company has not yet issued an official estimate of the duration of the shutdown or the potential impact on supplies and production from the site. Markets are closely monitoring the results of the ongoing inspection of the refinery, which is one of the most prominent joint refining projects between Aramco and Total Energies in Saudi Arabia.
