Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump signed the defense budget bill for fiscal year 2026, a record $901 billion. This move comes as part of the administration’s efforts to bolster military capabilities and expand national security spending.
According to a statement released by the White House, the new budget focuses on modernizing the military arsenal and developing advanced weapons systems. It also includes increased funding for research and development in the areas of air and space defense and cyber technologies, as well as supporting the readiness of forces deployed both within the United States and abroad.
The budget also includes additional funding to improve conditions for soldiers and their families, and to increase military pay. It also expands healthcare and logistics programs, as part of what the administration describes as a “long-term investment in America’s deterrent power.”
Conversely, the record level of defense spending has sparked controversy within political circles. Opponents have warned of its impact on the budget deficit, demanding that a portion of these allocations be directed towards education, infrastructure, and social services.
The budget approval comes at a time of escalating international tensions. Washington views this as justification for increasing military spending and maintaining its global strategic dominance.
