European stock markets were quiet with a slight decline at the start of trading on Monday, December 8.

The losses incurred by the consumer products sector offset the gains made by industrial groups and pharmaceutical companies.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell 0.2%, to 577.98 points at 10:10 a.m. Greek time.

Major regional markets also recorded a decline.

The general indicators in Germany fell by 0.1% and in France by 0.3%.

Performance of sector stocks

Consumer products: This sector was the most pressured on the index, with companies such as Unilever declining by 3.1%.

European industrial and healthcare groups: In contrast, shares of industrial groups saw…

The healthcare sector also saw a slight increase of 0.1% at the start of the session, which mitigated the overall decline.
