Paris, France – French judicial sources announced that the Paris Court of Appeal will consider on November 10 the request for release submitted by former French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

He was detained pending investigation into the Libyan funding of his 2007 election campaign.

This is according to what was reported by the French news agency,

confirming information published by the newspaper Le Figaro.

This development comes after a previous court decision

to place Sarkozy in temporary detention.

illicit financing

This is part of investigations into “illicit financing,” “corruption,”

and “complicity in financial crimes” linked to Libya under the late leader Muammar Gaddafi.

This is the first time a former French president has been jailed over a foreign funding case.

According to court reports, Sarkozy’s defense team has filed a formal appeal against his imprisonment.

He stressed that his client “is fully cooperating with the French judiciary”

and denies all the accusations against him.

He noted that “his pretrial detention is unjustified politically or legally.”

Sarkozy’s legal and political future

This issue is receiving widespread attention in French political and media circles.

Especially with the approaching date of the appeal hearing,

which could determine Sarkozy’s legal and political future,

He still maintains considerable influence within the French right wing.

The roots of the case go back to 2012, when media reports

and leaked documents revealed that Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential campaign,

She may have received millions of euros in funding from the former Libyan regime.

independence of the judiciary

These are accusations that he has categorically denied since the official investigation was opened in 2013.

The Court of Appeal is expected to issue its decision on the release request

within a few days of the hearing scheduled for November 10.

The French are following this case closely as it represents

a test of the independence of the judiciary in the face of former senior officials.
