Washington intends to paint the border fence with Mexico black. Why?
This measure aims to thwart illegal crossings/agencies
SHARE

Washington, United States – US Secretary of Homeland Security Christy Noem announced that the US government intends to paint the fence extending along the southern border with Mexico black. The aim is to make it very hot and difficult to climb.

This measure aims to thwart illegal crossings.

The fence is made up of closely spaced metal posts about a meter high and extends deep into the ground. It is “already very difficult to climb, almost impossible”, Noem said.

She stressed that its design makes digging under it very difficult.

She added that the decision to paint the entire fence black came “at the specific request” of President Trump.

She explained that the paint will increase the surface temperature in hot weather and make trying to climb more difficult.

Before his election as president in 2016, Trump promised to build a wall along the southern border. This border extends for about 3,200 kilometers. The goal was to prevent the entry of irregular migrants.

Construction of the wall began during his first term, and he pledged to complete it in the coming years.
