Seiyun, Yemen – The city of Seiyun in Hadramawt Governorate, eastern Yemen, witnessed rapid developments on the ground Wednesday morning. These developments included the Southern Transitional Council forces taking full control of the Presidential Palace and the headquarters of the First Military Region. This came as part of a military operation announced under the name “Promising Future.”
Field sources confirmed to “Voice of the Emirates” that Southern forces entered the headquarters after the collapse of defense lines and the successive fall of surrounding military positions. This was followed by the withdrawal of First Military Region elements from their positions. Meanwhile, engineering units began clearing and securing operations inside and around the headquarters to ensure the situation stabilized.
A pivotal event in Wadi Hadhramaut
The fall of the First Military Region Command represents a significant development in Wadi Hadramawt. It ends years of a military presence that local residents viewed as an external force, accusing it of abuses including collusion with armed groups. According to frequent local complaints, the command was also accused of running smuggling routes in the valley.
Statement by Mohammed Al-Zubaidi from Seiyun
In his first official statement, Mohammed al-Zubaidi, head of the Southern Transitional Council branch in Hadramawt, told Aden Independent Channel (AJC) following the entry of southern forces into Seiyun that this day represents “the culmination of the sacrifices of the people of the South since 1994, and a great day that everyone has been waiting for.”
Al-Zubaidi expressed his gratitude to the Southern Forces and the people of the southern provinces who “answered the call” within a few days. He reassured the residents of Hadramawt that “your areas are liberated and in your hands,” noting that local committees from the valley and desert regions are managing security.
He emphasized the unity of the southern ranks and the role of the local resistance, including the youth of the uprising and the revolutionaries of Hadramawt. He expressed his gratitude to President Aidarus al-Zubaidi for his support and continuous follow-up on the liberation operation.
In closing, he said: “The next target is Al-Mahra… liberation, God willing.”
Seizing military equipment and making progress on the ground
During the operations, the southern forces seized military vehicles and heavy and light equipment. They also captured quantities of ammunition, which strengthens their ability to complete the military operation in the remaining areas of the valley and desert.
Local welcome
Many residents of Seiyun welcomed the developments with widespread approval. They considered the day “historic,” marking the return of power in the valley to its people. This comes amidst hopes for a new era of security and administrative stability.
closeness to the body
By seizing control of the First Military Region, the Southern Forces are nearing the completion of their control over the entire Hadramawt Valley and its desert. Operations continue to secure the remaining areas as part of a military phase. The Southern Transitional Council leadership considers this a step towards “restoring the southern identity” in the region.
