Latakia, Syria – The Syrian Civil Defense announced, at dawn on Saturday, that it had controlled a fire in the ancient Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi Citadel. The fire also affected the surrounding forests in the Al-Haffa area in the Latakia countryside.
He pointed out that the fire has entered the cooling and monitoring phase, with the situation continuing to be monitored.
Media outlets quoted the Director of the Civil Defense Directorate in Latakia, Abdul Kafi Kayyal, as saying that civil defense teams in the Ministry of Emergencies and Disaster Management dealt with several separate fires in the region.
But the fire at Saladin Citadel was the most difficult among them.

The fire broke out in the ancient Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi Citadel and the surrounding forests. This occurred in the Al-Haffa area in the Latakia countryside, on Friday.
The Syrian Civil Defense fire brigades and fire regiments, supported by Ministry of Defense helicopters, began working to control it. Their aim was to limit its spread.
Especially since the steep, rocky nature of the area hampered the direct ground response.
Kayal pointed out that efforts to extinguish the fire took more than 6 continuous hours.
