Cairo, Egypt – Munich, Germany, witnessed an unprecedented state of security alert this morning. Explosions were heard followed by heavy gunfire along the main road, Lerchenauer Strasse. This resulted in killing one person and seriously wounding another with gunshot wounds.

Large numbers of police and firefighters were deployed around the accident site. A large-scale security cordon was imposed. The road was completely closed, creating panic among residents.

German police said investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident. They stressed that “there is no immediate danger to citizens,” especially given that the incident coincided with the city’s famous Oktoberfest celebrations.

The German newspaper Bild confirmed that rescue teams found one body. Meanwhile, the injured person was taken to the hospital for treatment. Official secrecy remains over the identity of the perpetrators and the reasons for the attack.

The incident brought to mind a series of attacks that have rocked Europe in recent years. It also raised widespread questions about the nature of the security threats in the heart of Germany.
