Washington, United States – A senior Russian diplomat revealed an expected new round of talks between Moscow and Washington.
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio stressed that US President Donald Trump “is doing everything he can to end the war in Ukraine.”
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said his country hopes to hold a new round of talks with US officials this fall.
This is to address the outstanding issues between the two countries.
He also explained that “the desire of both sides to avoid a failure that might hinder the achievement of tangible results is the reason for the delay in arranging a new meeting.”
“In any case,” he added. We aim to hold such a meeting at least by the end of autumn.”
Appointment scheduling issues
In addition, he pointed out that there were “technical and other problems in scheduling appointments”, but explained that “this is not the main reason for delaying the meeting”.
Ryabkov continued, saying, “The most important reason is that we do not want the meeting to be without tangible progress, as there is a risk that we will remain in our place without making any progress”.
work quietly
He also considered it better, as long as the political will exists on both sides, for work to continue behind the scenes.
This is to lay the foundation for the next steps, at which point all logistical and organizational aspects will be resolved quickly.
The United States and Russia held two rounds of talks in Istanbul, the first in February and the second last April.
They witnessed a great focus on diplomatic affairs and the resumption of the work of embassies.
Both parties confirmed at the time that they had made progress on these issues.
The US President also met with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, last month in Alaska.
But the meeting has not yet resulted in an agreement to end the war that has been ongoing for more than three and a half years in Ukraine.
While Trump recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of progress towards ending the conflict.
He also hinted at the possibility of imposing new sanctions on Russia, after repeatedly declaring during his election campaigns that he was capable of putting an end to this war within weeks and days.
